The Council provides strategic advice to the ACT Government on issues affecting LGBTIQ+ Canberrans. The work of the Council reflects the aim of the ACT Government to keep Canberra the most LGBTIQ+ welcoming and inclusive city in Australia.
The Council generally meets six times a year. In addition to these meetings, members are expected to undertake some additional work out-of-session. All members are appointed by Chief Minister, with appointments spanning three years.

As a member of Council, you will need to:
• demonstrate your commitment to inclusion and diversity
• demonstrate sound knowledge and experience regarding issues affecting people of diverse sex, gender, sexuality, bodies and relationships; and
have an ability to use your lived experience to consult and engage with diverse LGBTIQ+ Canberrans.

Five current vacancies exist on the Council, including the Chair. These are volunteer roles. The Chair receives an allowance for each meeting and small payments are made to members to cover expenses incurred while attending meetings.
Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (including migrants and refugees), people of faith, people with disability, transfeminine and non-binary people and representatives of other sexual minorities beyond the gay and lesbian communities are strongly encouraged.

Applications are open until 25 July 2021. Apply via ACT Diversity Register supplying:
• filled out nomination form;
• your resume; and
• two referee reports.
