Mobility Shower Benches Hire
Climbing over the side of a bath is one of the hardest movements in the bathroom, particularly for someone with hip, knee or back problems or poor balance. A mobility shower bench, often called a bath transfer bench, removes that step. The bench sits across the edge of the bath, with two legs inside the tub and two on the floor, so the user can sit down outside the bath and slide across to wash.
Once seated, the user lifts one leg at a time over the bath edge, then showers seated using a handheld shower. The same movement in reverse gets them out again. Benches usually have a backrest, height-adjustable legs and a seat long enough to shuffle along, and some include drainage slots and a side handle.
Benches are a common choice in Canberra homes built in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, where a shower over a bath is still the main way to wash. They are also used in larger walk-in showers when a person needs a wider, longer seat than a standard chair provides. A shower curtain works better than a fixed glass screen, since the bench must cross the bath edge.
Getting the height right is important. The bench seat should sit level and slightly above the bath rim so the user can slide across without climbing, and both sets of legs need to rest firmly on the bath floor and the bathroom floor. A non-slip mat inside the bath adds extra grip for the feet.
