Shower Chair Hire
A shower chair lets the user sit while they wash, which reduces the time spent standing on a wet floor and the strain of balancing on one leg to wash feet and legs. For people with limited mobility, low stamina, dizziness or recent surgery, that seated support can be the difference between showering independently and needing help.
Most hire shower chairs are made from lightweight aluminium with a moulded plastic seat, drainage holes and rubber feet that grip tiled floors. Height-adjustable legs let the seat be set so the user’s feet sit flat on the floor with knees at roughly a right angle, which makes sitting down and standing up easier. A backrest helps people who tire quickly, and armrests give something firm to push on when rising.
Before you request a chair, measure the shower recess and check the entry. A chair needs enough room for the user to turn and sit, and a hob or raised lip at the shower entrance may suit a lighter chair or stool better. A handheld shower on a rail is strongly recommended, because it lets the user wash while staying seated. If the bathroom only has a shower over a bath, a transfer bench is usually the better choice.
A chair also makes life easier for carers. When the user is seated at a stable height, a support worker or family member can help with washing hair, feet and back without bending awkwardly or bracing the user against a wet wall, which lowers the risk of strain for both people.
Shower chair hire is often used after hip and knee replacements, during rehabilitation, or while an older parent stays with family. Let us know the user’s height, any advice from a physio or occupational therapist, and how long you need the chair, and we will help you choose a suitable option.
