Changing Places

A Changing Places toilet facility allows people with high support needs to participate in all elements of community life, without having to limit their time out due to concerns about being able to access a suitable toilet.

Changing Places facilities include:

  • a height-adjustable adult-sized change table
  • a constant-charging ceiling track hoist system
  • a centrally-located peninsula toilet
  • additional circulation space more than standard accessible toilets
  • an automatic door with a clear opening of 950 mm at a minimum
  • and a privacy screen.

For more information, please see Changing Places.

Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK)

Changing places can be accessed using a Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK). For more information on how to obtain a MLAK Key, please see Master Locksmiths Access Key.

MLAK Key holders can also access facilities across the ACT including Liberty Swings. A Liberty Swing is specialised equipment that allows a person to remain seated in their wheelchair, which is secured to the Liberty Swing platform, while swinging. The ACT now has four Liberty Swings, located at Yerrabi Pond, Black Mountain Peninsula, Kambah District Park and Pearce Community Centre.

Finding a Changing Place

The National Toilet Map allows people to search online for accessible public toilets in their area.  The location and opening hours are listed for each facility. The search function of the website enables people to find toilets based on specific accessibility requirements, including by:

  • MLAK key,
  • a preference for a left-hand or right-hand transfer, and/or
  • ambulant facilities.

To search for changing places, please see the Changing Places Map. The map contains information about changing places across Australia, including:

  • Address,
  • Contact details,
